In 2003 Keith Everett wrote
The matches I have refereed so far
this season have been both a credit to the Clubs as well as
the Combination.
There are several ways' that Clubs
could help make Sunday mornings better for all of us:
1. It would be nice if Clubs came
and found their Referee before the match so that he and the
Teams are aware of each other.
2. If Clubs were to pay the referee
before the match, this saves him trying to find the person
responsible after, and saves any embarrassment when he finally
tracks them down.
3. Please would the Home Team
present the two match balls, both in good condition and to the
required pressure, to the referee as soon as possible. This
will then give him time so he can decide which ball to play
the match with and it also gives the Club time to alter the
pressure if required to?
4. Please give the names of your
substitutes to us before the match starts, as officially, you
will not be allowed to use any players, as substitutes, unless
they have been given to the Referee before kick off.
5. The last thing I would like to
mention is the Referees Assistants that are supplied by the
Teams. I have noticed in a lot of cases they are not fully
conversant with the offside rule. This again makes our
decisions very hard and often goes against the decision the
Assistant has made. To help Clubs, there is a book available
for just ?4.00. It is published yearly by the F.A., called
Laws of Association Football for Players and Referees. This
can be obtained from W. H. Smith, and most good book shops,
and would be a good investment for Clubs.
Finally, on behalf of all the
Referees in the Essex Sunday Football Combination, may I wish
all Clubs a Very Happy New Year, and may the standard of
football
continue.
