Round-Up 04-11-2007

The leaders of the Senior Division, Globetown,  crumbled to their first defeat of the season when they met a resurgent Ideal on Sunday morning. In a pulsating six goal thriller, the 2005 Champions reminded the rest of the league they mean business as they climbed up to third place in the table and have games in hand on the top two. Global also scored a notable victory after a poor start to their campaign, managing to edge past high flying Highgrove United with the odd goal in five at the M&B Club.

In the First Division, Lacey Wanderers sit proudly atop the table after handing out a lesson in finishing to Alnwick who are making their bow in the ESFC this year. The three goal victory lifts Lacey ahead of the chasing pack who were busy elsewhere. Cross Keys found Liberty in a determined mood and narrowly lost out in a dramatic game in Cottons Park but are still in touch, sitting nicely in third place while Leyton Orient Supporters continued their fine start and maintained a superb recent run which has seen them progress in County Competition also. The weekend win over Vernon also sees Leyton with one eye on the promotion places but face a difficult game at White Star next time out.

In Division Two, Samparo took the honours by squeezing past Romstar in a great game which could have gone either way but the victors maintained their 100% start to the season and lead the way in the table while Lakeview made it 26 goals in the last four games to climb to second place courtesy of the seven goal thrashing of the out-of-sorts Goodmayes Medics. Strassberg & Royston shared the spoils in a close encounter which leaves them both in sight of the promotion places but Barking Rangers slipped up in a heavy loss to Bridgehouse who have been anything but consistent so far. AC Keys managed to hold off Rainham Working Mens Club in a close one and both sides will be anxious to pick up points to avoid a relegation battle.

Three teams share the lead in the Third Division but the top six are all within a whisker of each other after the latest round of games. Dalton Sports joined the party at the top with an eight goal pasting of the hapless Abbey Ward while King George continue to slide after being handed a heavy home loss by a powerful Laganas outfit. West Ham DFC finally managed to put a smile on their weekend after leaving the St Anthony’s net bulging on five occasions and moved level with their conquests in the table.

In Cup action, a storming Ernie George Trophy match saw White Star emerge victorious after a stupendous seven goal thriller against Gem while the McDougall Cup threw up an easy win for Inter Ma’fair over Nomads.

In County Competition, two of our sides met unfortunately and Eastway defeated Eastside 2-1 in the Essex Sunday Premier Cup but at least we still have a representative to fly the flag.

11th November 2007

Ideal stormed to the top of the Senior Division after overcoming dogged resistance from Eastway in a tremendous encounter. It was their second successive win by the same scoreline and now sees them edging two other teams on the same number of points. Eastside enjoyed a romp against a struggling Global, handing out the kind of mauling rarely seen at this level while Medhurst dealt a blow to the hopes of Heathside in their quest to retain their title with a narrow 1-0 win. Highgrove's hopes of leaping to the top of the table were hit when they suffered a 0-2 loss at home to Makeway Eagles and stay just behind the leading pack.
In Division One, White Star were involved in another thriller, finally pushing aside Leyton Orient Supporters Club with the odd goal in seven while Alnwick and Athletic Elan could not be separated and took a point each in the only other game.
Samparo continue to soar in the Second Division and their lead is five points courtesy of a 10-2 thrashing of Bridgehouse while Lakeview continued their march on promotion after seeing off Romstar 4-1. Barking Rangers climbed into third position as they picked off AC Keys with some good finishing. Atoc made sure they returned to action after a recent break with a thump and they despatched Athletic Hornchurch for five in a romp.
In Division Three, Hardy Athletic have now opened up a six point gap on their rivals as St Anthony's were the latest club to get the treatment from the league leaders while New Ward Virtue enjoyed a familiar rout of the bottom club Abbey Ward and Nomads made it to the heady heights of third place defeating West Ham DFC 5-4 in a gripping see-saw game. Inter Ma'fair and King George earned a point apiece in a challenging mid-table clash but Dalton Sports were disappointed to lose ground after slipping to a 0-1 defeat against Laganas..
In the Ernie George Trophy, Globetown of the Senior Division were taken all the way, needing extra time to finally overcome the challenge of First Division Lacey Wanderers while Strassberg and Royston made it to the next round of the McDougall Cup with victories over Gem Reserves and Goodmayes Medics respectively.
