Text Box: 2005 McDougall Cup Final

Rainham WMC 3, Romstar 3 (aet)
(Rainham win on penalties)
Rainham Working Men's Club wrote themselves a chapter in the history books of the ESFC with victory in the McDougall Cup. It was their second success of the season, following the triumph over Liberty in the J Lizzimore Cup Final.
Last night (28th April) saw the conclusion of one of the most thrilling finals in memory as Rainham climbed into a 2-0 lead only for Romstar to show their class and determination to level two minutes from the end of normal time. With this momentum and ascendancy, Romstar took the lead and left Rainham on the ropes in extra time. But up popped the hero of the first final, Simon Wenborn, to steer home an equaliser and set up a nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out to decide the winners.
Those penalties had varying degrees of success and both keepers made excellent saves. Romstar keeper Roy Thacker even scored a cracking spot kick himself to delight his family and team-mates, but it was Rainham who would walk away with the trophy when, in sudden death, the final fatal kick from one of the Romstar substitutes crashed against the bar to signal absolute delight from the men in white.
Overall, football was the winner, it was a great advertisement for both teams, their coaching staff and the ESFC who are proud to have them in the league.
Romstar were deflated at the end, understandably, but at least they have the knowledge that they achieved promotion this year and contributed to the game of the season.....in any competition!
Rainham, on the other hand, were still celebrating as everyone left the stadium and can look back with pride on a great achievement.

Text Box: 2005 Premier Cup Final

GLOBAL 0 - 4 EASTSIDE
                                   Ephraim Tukei 56
                                                Bradley Nelson 70, 71, 75

Bradley Nelson emerged the hero following a stunning hat-trick scored within a sensational five minute spell deep into the second half.

Ephraim Tukei had opened the scoring eleven minutes after the break with a stunning 30 yard free-kick that left the substitute Global keeper Scott Williamson with no chance.

Global had looked jaded and tired this game and were certainly put to the sword in search of an equaliser. After a long hard season for Global, the young committed Eastside team showed plenty of passion and poured forward at will. After leaving just three men strung across the back, the Ernie George Cup Winners were stunned when a long punt downfield took a massive bounce up and over the keeper and were slow to respond as the alert Nelson made sure with a nod into the corner of the unguarded net.

From the kick-off Global uncharacteristically lost possession and a breakaway down the right flank for Eastside saw the ball cut back from the byline for Nelson to convert from 10 yards for his second in a minute.

Just four minutes later and the same player was swamped by his jubilant team-mates as he completed a momentous hat-trick. It made the score 4-0 on the night and probably reflected the difference in energies between the teams.

In front of a massive audience the trophy was presented to the captain, Anthony Cook, who had performed very well between the sticks, brilliantly saving a couple of close range efforts when the scores were level.
